What is a Ketogenic Diet?

Before knowing if a Low Carb Healthy Fat (LCHF), or “Keto” Diet, is a lifestyle you would like to embrace, it first helps to have an understanding of what exactly it is and how it works.

Our current standard diet is high in carbohydrates. Once we digest food, the carbohydrates are broken down by our body and create glucose, our bodies sugar. Then Insulin stores the glucose we dont need in the liver, as glycogen, or in our fat cells. It keeps existing fat cells from burning the fat they contain. Over time we gain weight.

On LCHF, we focus on lowering the amount of carbs (sugars and starches) in your diet and replace them with moderate protein and healthy fats. Reducing unnecessary carbs lowers insulin, freeing fat to be turned into “ketones” which can be burned for energy in our brain, our heart and our muscles. Ketosis has been proven to have many health benefits:

Our Story

Our vision for Ketocule Health Coaching began when we made changes in our own lives. We started living a healthier lifestyle, ditching carbohydrates for healthy fats, and researching the revolutionary science behind LCHF nutritional plans.

The immediate results we saw were incredible. We felt better, looked better, and reached goals we hadn’t even imagined. We knew we needed to share our program with others, to show them what they could accomplish by shifting their perspective, and trying something different.

Who We Are

Blair J. O’NeillMedical AdvisorMD, FACC, FRCPC

Dr. O’Neill has been a practicing cardiologist since 1990 and was a Governor for the American College of Cardiology and President of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society. Like his patients, Dr. O’Neill gained weight over time following guideline-recommended low fat diets. He adopted a low carb, 0 sugar, high healthy fat lifestyle, and quickly lost 30 lbs. Reinforced by his personal journey and his research, Dr O’Neill is now a passionate advocate for the LCHF lifestyle, and empowers people to make evidence-based health, lifestyle, and diet choices.

Barbara O’NeillHealth CoachMBA, RN, Dip.PH, COHN(C)

Barbara O’Neill is a certified Health Coach. She holds an MBA, a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health, and is a Registered Nurse with a sub-specialty in Occupational Health. She is a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN), accredited in both Canada and the US. Barbara has worked in health care and in health-related private sector industries for over 30 years. Her coaching style is empathetic and goal-oriented, and she is passionate about helping people achieve wellness through nutrition.

Victoria SafonovaProgram ManagerBA, Linguistics

Victoria Safonova obtained her Bachelor Degree in Linguistics at the Russian State University for the Humanities. She has studied and worked in Japan for four years. She is fluent in English, Japanese, and Russian; interested in translation, web design, and karate.
